Shopping is a part of everyday life and is a chore that needs to be done. So it's not necessary very interesting or a pleasure. As my parents are very busy I do my best to help the to run our house. One of my duties is to do shopping. When our family runs out of food products, I'm asked toy and buy what is necessary. Most shops specialize in certain goods. If should be noted that most of them in our city are pretty well stocked, often with imported and domestic food. Bread (bourn and white) is sold at the bakery (baker's shop) where we can also buy rusks, rooms and bung. As I have a sweet tooth I can't miss the confectionary where I buy candies or chocolate bar, biscuits or cakes, etc. I'm a regular customer of the greengrocery, which has at its deposal a wide choir of vegetables and fruits: potatoes, carrots, cabbage, cucumbers, radish, and onions, green pea etc. but it is much cheaper to buy all these things at a market where people from nearby villages or those who have dachas sell spare potatoes and carrots, apples and pears and other things from their dacha plots or bigger traders off fond truckfuls of melon, oranges, bananas from the Transcaucasus, the Crimea, from Central Asia or even Africa. You'll often find dried fruit, cheese, nuts, honey, meat and other tools in markets too. It's better to go to the market carrying the morning for the liveliest scene and best selection. You can usual bargain a bit over prices. My mother usually goes there on Sundays. At the fruit counter I buy apples and pears, oranges and grapes, fruit, dried, bottled and tined fruits, bananas and so on. I'm also a great lover of fruit juices. At the butcher's (meat shop) they sell meat such as beef, park, mutton, veal, mixed meat and poultry. At the fishmonger's we can buy fish: fresh, frozen and tinned as well as herring, caviar, etc. Different cereals, sudak, salt, macarchi, flour ant tea can be found at any grocery shop. To save the customer's time and shopping more can fordable, there is a great number of supermarkets, department stores and shopping malls which sell different goods under one roof. Department stores are often worth a look. They usually have different departments, such as men's clothes, women's clothes, shoes, toys, glass. In the men's clothing department you can choose soars, trousers, ties etc. At the women's clothing department they have coals, cloaks, jackets, dresses, blouses, silk or nylon stockings and many other things to satisfy and taste. At any department store there are naturally department which offer all sorts of kitchen utensils and electric appliances, pots, pans, pails, refrigerators, vacuum cleaners, and thousand other trifles necessary for any household. And it goes without saying that a special department offer you radio and TV set, tape recorders and record players, long-playing records, watches and clocks. In the stationary department they have on sale: paper, note-books, ball-point pens, pencil, water-colors, brushed, push-pins, eraser and what not. In the knitwear department one can buy sweaters, cardigans, T-shirts, woolen jackets. Supermarket are brightly lit and well laid out. The good are tidily arranged on trays and long shelves on which the prices are clear marked. There's plenty of room for the customers to walk avoid. In the supermarket most of the goods are sold ready, ready packed and wrapped. You can find wide selection of everything there from shoe polish to eggs. Customers go round the supermarket with a basked or a trolley getting the food from the shelves. Having filled your basket you go to the cash disc, pay money to the casher and she gives you back the change. There are departments, known as "bargain sales", where they sell goods at the reduced prices. It is important for housewife because the prices are going up constantly. |
